    Not quite Ian -but you're on the right track. All living beings have a soul, which is really one soul fragmented into an illusion of many by individual minds apparently developing from the om point or big bang at the start of this creation.
    That original one soul was formless, timeless, unconscious One, like a still ocean. A whim in this ocean asked a question "who am I?" This minute disturbance in the infinite unconscious ocean produced a recoil or shockwave or big bang. This stirring or wind across its surface, caused countless souls to stream forth, identifying with matter, thus gaining minute individual consciousness of seperateness, each.
    
    At first it was gaseous then dust then stars and then planets, then primitive vegetation then worms and insects. Then reptiles, fish, birds, amimals and lastly, man. Its an evolution driven by increasing consciousness not by developing forms which are the by product of the soul's increasingly sophisticated identifiction with matter, only.
    
    So evolution, though it looks like an ascent, is really a descent and man is right at the bottom of the shit heap and can only go one way; inwards, back to the original source. That is the second journey, involution, where the soul's fully developed consciousness ( through evolution) turns away from focusing outwards and becomes conscious of its own original naturewithin, before the big bang started all this cuffuffle off, aeons ago (which in reality is no time at all).
    
    But before this turning inwards can begin the impressions in each mind, formed by the experiences during evolution and which were vital to develop consciousness; have to be weakened or loosened. So re-incarnation in human form over thousands of lives ( births and deaths) is needed to clear away some of this debris before humans become softened enough to become spiritually inclined. Then the second journey inwards can begin, back to the source to experience individualized infinite consciousness.
    
    It is only then that the soul realizes the illusory dream that this whole creation actually is.
    
    Going back to your soul point Ian, man in his present state is furthest away from his original soul, or most extremely seperated. Paradoxically, though he has fully developed consciousness, more even than the animals (Cathead excepted), that consciousness is unfortunately still almost entirely focused on the outside illusion which is the shadow of God, or the vehicle to obtaining consciousness only. Man, in his illusion of being seperate in the extreme, uses fully developed intellect to perpetuate untold horrors on his fellow creatures.
    
    The new men, present on this planet now in their extra millions are mostly reincarnated from other planets in the universe also inhabited by humans. They rise to positions of prestige and power by dint of clear intellects. But they have no heart or feelings developed yet. They are younger souls and it is these beings who have brought great leaps in scientific technologies but with little heart quality to combine that development with spirituality. So that is now the next step for this planet, to utilize technological advancement for the benefit of all but to combine that with heart quality along the lines of your

    This type of stuff puts materialism in its proper perspective.

  Cathead, I applaud your xmas message; be assured I had my usual vegetarian xmas dinner. I don't believe in souls, but I believe that every living thing is trying to stay alive, just like me, and it is my duty to help when I can and certainly, at worst, to never hinder.
